Our History

Baku State University named after С.М.Киров was established in 1935. The first group of Ph.D program consisted in 12 Ph.D students, and 15 more Ph.D students were further admitted in 1937. The number of Ph.D students increased to 28 during 1937/38 academic year and for the purpose of increasing qualification 5 students were sent to Leningrad (present St. Petersburg). During the 1938/39 academic year 50 Ph.D candidates were admitted and the number of the Ph.D students of Baku State University reached to 78.
The number of Ph.D students in 1944/45 academic year was 65 studying in the following fields: Azerbaijani literary language, history of USSR, general history, chemistry, biological sciences, mathematics, physics, mechanics, geography, geology, political economics, philosophy, pedagogy, physiology, Russian language, Persian language, English, French and German languages.
The master department is established by the order #1/178 of the rector dated 07.07.2000 in 2000. The management of the department is assigned to Prof. I.A.Aliyev. The master, Ph.D and doctorate departments was integrated into the master, Ph.D and doctorate department by the order of rector dated 02.01.2000. Prof. I.A.Aliyev is appointed the head of the department.
Associate Professor А.О.Мяммядова is appointed as the head of the department by the order of the rector dated 13.11.07 # 1/263. Currently, she is acting as the head of the department.
